The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Review

The Twilight Saga

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is definitely a must watch for all the die-hard twilight fans. Director Bill Condon gets together an ensemble cast for the fourth installment in the Twilight Series. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner reprise their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black.

In the fourth installment in the franchise, Bella Swan gets married to her long-time Vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen. However things once again take an unexpected wild turn when Bella discovers that she is pregnant with a child. This further fuels the much needed antagonism from the wolves who decide to kill the unborn child, which they assume poses a threat to them, along with Bella. This leads to Jacob and Seth, and later on Leah, breaking away from their pack to forewarn the Cullens. Meanwhile, the fetus adversely affects Bella’s health, leaving her on the brink of death. Finally, the Cullens succeed in transforming Bella into a vampire after getting the fetus out of her.

The movie essentially lacks the subtlety of the novel. Despite the brilliant locations and amazing effects, you do not connect to the movie in the way you connect to the book. Kristen Stewart’s Acting has simply degraded. Bella’s emotions and feelings are the last thing one can see on her face. Taylor Lautner has done a better job by not giving his usual shirtless shot. He has actually managed to deliver some degree of acting. A clear improvement on his part. So leave it to Robert Pattinson to save the film. His acting is the only thing which helps you in believing that this film is actually an adaptation of a novel which you happened to read. The charisma with which he portrays the flawless Edward Cullen is undoubtedly the best thing in the film. The rest of the Cullen cast, too have done an exceptionally good job in managing to keep the film on the track. Booboo Stewart returns as Seth Clearwater. He, too has delivered an outstanding performance of easing the tension during critical times.

The decision of splitting the last novel into two parts could have been beneficial for the franchise, however the film majorly lacked in putting together the humorous elements along with the tense atmosphere.

Nonetheless, the movie did have its plus points. This was the first movie where we got a proper ‘inside look’ of the wolf pack. Hats off to the cinematography. It has definitely managed to capture the audience’s attention. Foreign locations have also been carefully chosen to give the film its much needed look. Overall the movie is a one time watch for those who aren’t twilight fans. But its clearly a must-watch for the twihards.
